Description of the ExceleRate Tutoring Program:
The ExceleRate Tutoring program is a year-long fellowship program in urban education designed for college graduates who wish to make an impact in the lives of urban youth. Galapagos Rockford recruits top college graduates to work full time at Galapagos Rockford Charter School- a public charter school in Rockford, IL, providing targeted, rigorous instruction and support to the school’s 6th-8th grade scholars.
Every scholar in 6th-8th grades receives targeted academic support through the ExceleRate program, regardless of current achievement levels. The ExceleRate program also provides scholars with guidance, mentoring, help with homework, and opportunities to extend classroom learning. The mission of ExceleRate is to provide Galapagos scholars with the individual support necessary to ensure that they have the academic foundations to be accepted into selective college preparatory high schools.
The ExceleRate Tutoring Director is responsible for supervising ExceleRate tutors. The Director will provide observations and feedback on tutoring sessions, provide professional development and coaching to the tutors, assist in recruiting and interviewing tutoring candidates, and work on fundraising efforts to support the program. This position requires knowledge in the area of middle school education, data-driven instruction, and middle school level mathematics.
Ideal Program Director candidates will hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree (any field), will have experience with management and supervision, and will have experience teaching middle school mathematics.
Candidates with teaching experience at any level, even without management or middle school mathematics experience are also encouraged to apply. A current teaching or administrative certification is not a requirement for this role.
The ExceleRate Tutoring Director position is a year-round permanent position.
