The Galapagos Rockford team invites staff, scholars, parents, and community members to participate in a variety of community building events throughout the school year.  Check this page frequently for a listing of all upcoming events.

Beautification Day


What:  Join us as we get prepare the ground for planting our native plants garden and start our seedlings for the Lower and Upper Academy gardens.

Where:  Upper Academy, 3051 Rotary Rd.

When: Saturday, April 8th from 9:00am-12:00pm

Who: All GRCS scholars, families, & community members!  

No need to sign up in advance.   Come for all or part of the morning!


GRCS Color Fun Walk/Run 5K


What:    Join GRCS as we host our own Color Fun Walk/Run 5K to raise money to support Galapagos Rockford Charter School.  All of the proceeds raised from this event will be used to support sending our 8th grade scholars on the trip of a lifetime to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.! 

Where: Lower Academy, 2605 School St.

When:  Saturday, May 6th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Who:  All runners, community members, GRCS staff-scholars-families, and anyone looking to have fun while supporting a great cause in Rockford!

Playground Build Day


What:   Join us as we team up to build a playground for the children of Rockford!  

We are seeking volunteers who do not have to be skilled, trained or have any special tools; they just have to enthusiastic, energetic, a team player, willing to work, and have fun, fun, fun! (And be at least 18 years of age.)  We’ll provide lunch, beverages, music, and special events.  The build will happen rain or shine.  

Where: Lower Academy, 2605 School St.

When: Saturday, May 20th from 8:00am-4:00pm

Who: ALL Rockford community members!  We are seeking volunteers to help build this community resource.
